LIBRO IV Knights of Thyria The war has broken the frat of the Three Reais, although their kings still pretend they can contain them with letters, treaties and good manners. Ascalon returns from Blind Balute with two news: La Forja has lost the town but his heir has been killed. On the way, three witches call him Seneschal and declare that He will be king and prophesy that He will die at the hands of an Aedh Oretes descendant. To his side, Tar Walnis receives an even more dangerous revelation: He will be father of kings. When Duncan of Lyonesse returned to Ascalon his old title and put whole armies under his command, the first part of his prophecy was fulfilled. From that moment onwards, every real order begins to look as a step and every heir, an enemy. At Thyria, young Iain Chriseyde is sent to Black Island to form among the Steel Lords. He will have to face a mission that has consumed earlier expeditions and to prove whether his lineage deserves more than an honorable name and an inherited sword. But war comes before him. At the heart of his palace, the Dominican ambassador killed La Forja's representative and killed under his spears. LIBRO V The Pass of Abyss Beyond the last Inn begins a path that does not appear on the maps. Oberon, Uther, Gloin and Tarvan cross into a region where winter doesn't obey stations, petrified trees preserve human forms and travellers lose memories as others lose blood. That's where they find Lia, a border keeper built up against an evil whose name was deliberately forgotten. To continue, each will have to surrender something. Gloin will figure out what happened with his father, Thorin Cuernonebre, and why his mace is the key to a door that should never have been opened. Oberon will have to decide how much he's ready to sacrifice to fulfill his orders. Uther will first listen to the promise of a pronounced crown with the exact voice of his own desires. While the princes penetrate the cryptas, the Dominion buries Gaheris at the Dragon Bastion. King Darra turns dueling into a strategy, prepares his remaining children for an endless war and forces Valiant to ask if his oath requires obeying the king or saving the princes from what pain is turning his father into. At the end of the path, Thorin's waiting. Or what's left of him. And with his hands lies a mask that cannot be destroyed as long as the corpse of the devil Mefisto remains hidden somewhere in the world. Finding her was the mission. To date her will be his conviction.

LIBRO VI The Mask of the devil The relic's been buried. Now travel with them. The mask speaks with the voice of the dead and shows what every man wants and feeds his inner cracks. Gloin's listening to his father. Oberon looks at Ishara at risk. Uther sees the life his brother believes his brother has stolen from him: his crown and his love and his woman who have been wanting to be silent for years. While the passengers come back to Thyria, the dead of the mountains kneel before the mask and Mefisto begins to awaken. Oberon tries to protect his brother from possession, but Uther knows a more terrible truth: the devil has not created his hate. He's only been amplified. At the same time, at Lyonesse, Duncan lacks the power granted to Ascalon. The new Senescal brings together the clans of La Forja while his wife Marcia understands that a prophecy doesn't have to be fulfilled by itself. Just have someone have the courage - or ambition - to help her. The dispute between the brothers ends with a crypt. A black sword crosses Oberon's womb. Uther puts his mask. And Gloin, forced to choose between to die with his prince or to obey his face monster, throws his body into a backless darkness. He will have to come back to Thyria and swear that Oberon fell through a parrot. Some lies save lives. Others have established Reigns.

LIBRO VII All the Kings are dead Arakar Oretes appears dead in a closed room from inside. His throat's torn, his body's nearly empty with blood and an expression of horror that no doctor, druid or magician can explain. The guards swear that nobody came in. The servants talk about shadows climbing through the walls. The nobles speak of regency, succession and extraordinary powers before the body has been put out of bed. With Oberon and Uther missing, Thyria remains without king and with his heir. Ishara Brisaluna faces a court that purports to protect, monitor or use her. In his dreams, he finds Oberon dying under the mountains and finds that Mefisto offers him survival in exchange for his pain. When they awaken, an even more dangerous certainty grows within them: they are pregnant. The throne that everyone considers empty may have been an heir. While Thyria sees his king, Ascalon complete his own prophecy. He was helped by Marcia and drugged Duncan and killed his monarch and accused Prince Malcolm Donovan of his parricide. Tar Walnis presence crime and should choose between defending the dead king, serving the usurper or saving the fugitive heir. Before the end of the night, a king has been killed, another man prepares his coronation and two hidden lineage demand the future. All kings are dead. The following are already learning how to kill.

LIBRO VIII The Last The crown of Lyonesse isn't conquered in a battle. He's prepared in a pantry. A week before King Duncan's visit, Marcia mixes opium poppy with the wine destined for the actual entourage and convinced Ascalon that his sterility can only be compensated with something more durable than a child: a kingdom. Tar Walnis provides the drug without first knowing its purpose and gets trapped in a conspiracy where both loyalty and innocence can be punished with gallows. When Ascalon kills Duncan, Tar helps Malcolm Donovan escape through his drains and then agrees to conduct his persecution against the same man she's just saved. He should lose his prints, evacuate his family and reach Irkus before the new king finds his betrayal and exterminates all those with his blood. At Thyria, Uther rules with his mask hidden under his face. Ishara gave birth to the son of Oberon: a child whose existence destroys the legitimacy of the regent. Uther orders Gloin to get him out of town and kill him far from his walls. The midget will accept. He later disobeys. chased by soldiers and killers and a presence that talks with his dead voices, Gloin takes his child to Irkus, where his path crosses with Tar Walnis, the man whom his witches called the father of kings. That's where they're provisionally christening the little man as Darun: what remains inside. Uther wants him dead. Mefisto claims it. Oberon's still alive somewhere under the ground. And a midget who once betrayed his father will have to decide how far he's ready to get to save his child. He's with no army. No crown. Just get his last.
